English<\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong> Sound<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><p><strong>Theta<\/strong> represents the <strong>voiceless \u201cth\u201d<\/strong> sound, as in:<\/p><ul><li><strong>think<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>theatre<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>theory<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>method<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>It is <em>not<\/em> <strong>t<\/strong>, <em>not<\/em> <strong>d<\/strong>, and <em>not<\/em> <strong>f<\/strong>.<br \/>It is breath passing <strong>between<\/strong> tongue and teeth.<\/p><p>That matters.<\/p><p>Greek made <strong>breath audible<\/strong>.<\/p><ol start=\"2\"><li><strong> What Theta carries (conceptually)<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><p>Theta is linked to <strong>\u03b8\u03ad\u03b1<\/strong><strong> \/ <\/strong><strong>\u03b8\u03b5\u03c9\u03c1\u03af\u03b1<\/strong>:<\/p><ul><li><strong>\u03b8\u03ad\u03b1<\/strong> \u2192 seeing<\/li><li><strong>\u03b8\u03b5\u03c9\u03c1\u03ce<\/strong> \u2192 to observe attentively<\/li><li><strong>\u03b8\u03b5\u03c9\u03c1\u03af\u03b1<\/strong> \u2192 contemplation, not speculation<\/li><\/ul><p>So in English:<\/p><ul><li><strong>theory<\/strong> = a way of <em>seeing<\/em><\/li><li><strong>theatre<\/strong> = a place of <em>seeing<\/em><\/li><li><strong>theology<\/strong> = seeing \/ thinking about the divine<\/li><\/ul><p>\ud83d\udc49 Theta is not noise.<br \/>\ud83d\udc49 Theta is <strong>perception with breath<\/strong>.<\/p><ol start=\"3\"><li><strong> Why English kept TH<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><p>English <strong>needed<\/strong> a sound it did not originally have.<\/p><p>Instead of flattening \u0398 into <strong>T<\/strong> or <strong>S<\/strong>, it chose <strong>TH<\/strong> \u2014<br \/>a <em>graphic compromise<\/em> to preserve Greek precision.<\/p><p>That alone tells you something about Greek authority.<\/p><ol start=\"4\"><li><strong> Theta vs other \u201cth\u201d sounds<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><p>English has <strong>two<\/strong> \u201cth\u201d sounds:<\/p><table><thead><tr><td><p><strong>Greek<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td><p><strong>English example<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td><p><strong>Sound<\/strong><\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><p>\u0398 (theta)<\/p><\/td><td><p><strong>think, theory<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td><p>voiceless<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><p>\u0394 (delta, via evolution)<\/p><\/td><td><p><strong>this, that<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td><p>voiced<\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><p>Greek <strong>separated<\/strong> them.<br \/>English <strong>merged<\/strong> them graphically but not phonetically.<\/p><p>Greek precision survived inside English
