\r\n In our everyday experience, a particle resembles a tiny grain:\r\n it is found at a particular point. A wave, by contrast, spreads\r\n out, encounters other waves and produces interference.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n In the quantum world, however, this clear distinction is not enough.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n A photon or an electron is not a tiny particle that suddenly\r\n transforms into a wave. It is a quantum object that cannot be fully\r\n described by either classical picture. Depending on how the\r\n experiment is arranged, it may display wave-like or particle-like\r\n properties.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n <\/i>\r\n The Double-Slit Experiment<\/strong>\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n We send photons or electrons, one at a time, towards two very\r\n narrow slits. Each arrival is recorded on the screen as a localised\r\n point \u2014 like the trace of a particle.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n When many such points accumulate, however, they gradually form an\r\n interference pattern: bright and dark bands characteristic of\r\n wave-like behaviour.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n If the experimental apparatus records which slit the quantum object\r\n passed through, the interference disappears. No human being needs\r\n to be watching. What matters is that the path information has been\r\n recorded through a physical interaction.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n Measurement does not merely reveal a ready-made picture. It forms\r\n part of the experiment itself and affects which phenomenon can\r\n appear.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n <\/i>\r\n Keep This in Mind:<\/strong>
\r\n A quantum object is not simply \u201cboth a wave and a particle.\u201d\r\n It is something deeper that cannot be contained completely within\r\n either word.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n The thought of Heraclitus is traditionally summarised in the phrase\r\n panta rhei<\/em> \u2014 everything changes.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n We are not claiming that Heraclitus knew Quantum Physics. We can,\r\n however, hear a distant philosophical echo: reality is not obliged\r\n to remain still within the categories we have created to describe it.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n Sometimes, to approach the invisible, we must allow nature to be\r\n stranger than our words.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n

\r\n <\/i>\r\n The Poetic Bridge\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n Wave\u2013particle duality does not mean that human beings are sometimes\r\n waves and sometimes particles. Quantum Physics is not a theory of\r\n human personality.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n It does, however, offer us a valuable reminder:\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n Sometimes reality is not contradictory. It is simply greater than\r\n the categories through which we try to describe it.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n The same may be true when we look at another person.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n No single adjective can contain a human being in their entirety.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n A person may be strong and vulnerable.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n Courageous and cautious.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n Familiar and still unexplored.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n They are not required to choose a single aspect in order to be true.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n

\r\n <\/i>\r\n Perhaps, before calling something contradictory, we should ask\r\n whether our words are large enough to contain it.\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
