The brain doesn&#8217;t hold &#8220;pure concepts&#8221; that are later dressed in words. It holds images, sensations, and small movements of meaning. And the <strong>word<\/strong> comes to hold them together. The word is the mold that gives shape to the unformed.<\/li><li><strong> Thought is not a line \u2014 it is a wave<\/strong> Observe what happens inside you: A sensation is born; it swells (without a word yet); it finds its word; it stabilizes; and then\u2026 it flows again. This is a wave. And the word is the crest of the wave that becomes visible.<\/li><li><strong> Why the Greek language &#8220;elevates&#8221; you<\/strong> The Greek language:<\/li><\/ol><ul><li>Has <strong>roots<\/strong> \u2192 providing depth.<\/li><li>Has <strong>inflection<\/strong> (clisis) \u2192 providing freedom.<\/li><li>Has <strong>nuances<\/strong> \u2192 providing precision. Without the word, not only is the expression lost \u2014 <strong>discernment<\/strong> is lost. And when we do not discern, everything becomes &#8220;the same,&#8221; everything becomes &#8220;vague,&#8221; everything becomes <strong>noise<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><ol start=\"4\"><li><strong> The invisible violence of ambiguity<\/strong> There is a violence that is not seen. It does not shout. It does not strike. It is the violence of the <strong>undefined word<\/strong>. When I say:<\/li><\/ol><ul><li>&#8220;I&#8217;m a mess&#8221; instead of &#8220;I am angry&#8221; or &#8220;I am disappointed.&#8221;<\/li><li>&#8220;Something happened&#8221; instead of &#8220;I made a mistake.&#8221;<\/li><li>&#8220;That&#8217;s how it is&#8221; instead of &#8220;I didn&#8217;t think it through.&#8221; Then, I am not just avoiding precision; I am avoiding the <strong>responsibility of thought<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><ol start=\"5\"><li><strong> Precision is not strictness \u2014 it is care<\/strong> In Greek, words are many not for display, but because the world has <strong>nuances<\/strong>. <em>Strength, Vigor, Valor, Might<\/em> (\u0394\u03cd\u03bd\u03b1\u03bc\u03b7, \u03a3\u03b8\u03ad\u03bd\u03bf\u03c2, \u0391\u03bb\u03ba\u03ae, \u03a1\u03ce\u03bc\u03b7) are not just synonyms. They are <strong>different ways of existing<\/strong>.
