PART B: ETYMOLOGICAL NUGGETS (English)
- Anthropos (Human): The Reflective Observer
- The Root: “Anathron a opope” (Socrates/Plato).
- The Etymon: A Human is the one who “examines what he has seen.” We aren’t just spectators of life; we are the observers who process, reflect, and judge reality.
- Agalomai (To Rejoice) & Agalma (Statue): The Soul’s Vibration
- The Root: Agan (very much) + allomai (to leap).
- The Etymon: To rejoice is to feel one’s soul “leaping” with joy. An Agalma (statue/icon) is an object intended to provoke this divine vibration of happiness.
- Adelphos-Frator (Brother): From the Same Womb
- The Root: A (copulative) + delphys (womb).
- The Etymon: Brothers are those who share the same womb. This same root gives us Delphi, the “navel” of the world, named after its womb-like shape on the mountainside.
- Aischron (Disgraceful): Blocking the Flow
- The Root: Aei + ische (to hold back/restrain).
- The Etymon: That which is disgraceful is what “constrains the flow” of the energy that nourishes our soul. It is a spiritual blockage.
- Aletheia (Truth): The End of Oblivion
- The Root: A (privative) + lethe (oblivion/forgetfulness).
- The Etymon: Truth is “un-forgetting.” It is the act of bringing out into the light what was hidden by the fog of forgetfulness.
